Cakes & Sweets Website - Case Study
This case study explores the impact of UX and UI design in developing an e-commerce website for Cakes & Sweets. Created by our group, the project focuses on designing a visually appealing, user-friendly platform that enhances the online ordering experience and strengthens the brand’s digital presence. Our workflow was guided by the principles of design thinking, ensuring a user-centered approach throughout the process.
Problem
A talented baker had been successfully selling cakes and sweets, but their current sales methods lacked the ability to engage customers and provide a seamless shopping experience.
Solution
Developed an e-commerce platform for Cakes & Sweets. This new website highlights the baker's unique creations and provides customers with an improved, user-friendly shopping experience.
User Research
Conducting a series of interviews with both stakeholders and customers. These conversations provided invaluable insights into user needs, preferences, and pain points.
Competitors Analysis
We analyzed competing brands to identify strengths and opportunities for differentiation, focusing on features like customizable orders and clear navigation. Competitive mapping guided the “Luxury and Classic” aesthetic, balancing timeless appeal with a premium, sophisticated feel.
Card Sorting & Sitemap
A card sorting exercise with users validated our content organization, while sitemap testing confirmed intuitive navigation, enabling us to move forward confidently with the design.
Style Tile
We selected typography and color palettes to balance “Luxury and Classic” themes, ensuring an elegant yet simple design for ease of use.
Usability Testing
We conducted usability testing to identify pain points and gather feedback, leading to iterative improvements in navigation, clarity, and overall usability.

Conclusion
Designing the Cakes & Sweets e-commerce website offered valuable insights into creating an engaging and effective online platform. I gained experience in collecting and analyzing user data, selecting colors and typography to convey the “Classic and Luxury” themes, and iterating the design based on user testing. This project deepened my understanding of the entire design process, from wireframing to implementation. Moving forward, I aim to further explore advanced personalization features and integrate emerging design trends to continue enhancing user engagement and satisfaction.
